"Well worth viewing is the website of London-based artist Fiona Calnan who has strong family ties with the OldHead of Kinsale. Specialising in graphite and mixed media, the root of her passion for art is inspired by the rugged beauty of the Old Head and the Atlantic Ocean's relentless manipulation of the West Cork coastline.
Fiona studied Fine Art at Kingston University, Surrey. On graduating, she was drawn to music and pursued a career as a singer-songwriter for some years, but naturally found herself pulled back towards drawing.
Last summer, Fiona Calnan's work was exhibited to much acclaim at The Speckled Door, Old Head of Kinsale, and she had a showing of a selection of landscapes and life studies at the craft fair during Kinsale Arts Week. She has exhibited in London and her work is also to be seen in the Olcote Gallery, Kinsale, and Oscar's, Ealing, London.
In addition to landscapes and life studies, she also paints portraits by commission.
On her return to Ireland this summer, Fiona will be running drawing workshops at Kinsale Pottery and Art School.
Fiona's summer home is at Toadstool Cottage, Ballinspittle, where her mother Geraldine and aunt Rosemary Calnan reside, and her UK address is 4, Fairfax House, Western Avenue, London S5 IKD, Tel. 0044 7940457383.
Full information is available on the website at www.fionacalnan.com."

"Among the many stands well worth viewing at the Craft Fair in the marquee in Church Square car park from July 22 to 24 during Kinsale Arts week are pictures by London based artist Fiona Calnan who has strong ties with 'Courcey's Country'. Fiona's first solo exhibition in Ireland took place recently in the wonderful seashore setting of Lordan's speckled Door Pub and Restaurant near the Old Head of Kinsale.
…On view were 21 …landscapes. Fiona said she has been inspired by the stunning beauty and in particular the rocks, trees, water and elements of the Irish coast and countryside and this is most strikingly depicted in her unique views of the Old Head of Kinsale, Garrettstown, Lough Ine, Slea Head and other locations using a loose cross-hatch style.
Aged 33, Fiona is the daughter of Geraldine Machin…and she resides in Ealing, London where she has her studio. ..Her Grandfather was Tom Calnan well known along with his brother Batt Calnan from the Old Head who was a noted poet and writer and regularly contributed to The Southern Star…"
